Rumen passage rates and

چکیده

Six ruminally cannulated steers were used to evaluate the influence of dietary concentrate level on digestion of fiber, rumen pH and fill, and liquid and particulate passage rates. Total tract digestibility of potentially digestible fiber, but not total fiber, was decreased with each increase in concentrate level. Digestion coefficients suggest that potentially digestible fiber is a more appropriate expression of diet fiber than is neutral detergent fiber in studies on effects of concentrate level on fiber digestion. Passage rate of feed components was not changed from 30 to 60% concentrate. Passage rate of roughages, but not milo or liquid, were decreased at the 90% concentrate level. Ruminal digestibility of fiber was not decreased for any ingredient from 30 to 60% concentrate, but decreased for all components at 90% concentrate. These data indicate that roughage fiber digestibility may be more severely influenced by high concentrate level than grain fiber digestibility, but that grain fiber may account for the majority of fiber digestion depression associated with feeding high concentrate diets due to its high potential digestibility, and its large contribution to total diet fiber.

Passage rate and total clearance rate from the rumen of cows fed on grass silages differing in cell-wall content.

Four non-lactating, rumen-fistulated cows were fed ad lib. on two grass silages (first cut (FC) and second cut (SC) harvested at different growth stages, resulting in different crude-protein (CP) and neutral-detergent-fibre (NDF) contents (FC, 152g CP/kg, 515g NDF/kg and SC, 210g CP/kg, 442g NDF/kg). Voluntary intake and rumen contents, total as well as organic matter were higher for silage FC....

Effects of Specific Gravity and Particle Size of Passage Marker on Particulate Rumen Turnover in Holestine Dairy Cattle

This experiment was carried out to evaluate the effect of specific gravity (SG) and particle size (PS) of Chromium-mordanated alfalfa neutral detergent fiber (NDF) markers on estimation of particulate rumen turnover. Thirty-two multiparous, mid lactation Holstein dairy cows (body weight=654±24 kg) were allotted to a completely randomized design experiment with two replications in a 4×4 factoria...

dC as a marker to study digesta passage kinetics in ruminants: a combined in vivo and in vitro study

The aim of the current study was to explore the use of the tracer C as an internal marker to assess feed fraction-specific digesta passage kinetics through the digestive tract of dairy cows. Knowledge on feed-specific fractional passage rates is essential to improve estimations on the extent of rumen degradation and microbial protein efficiency; however, this information is largely lacking. An ...

A comparative study of nutrient digestibility, kinetics of degradation and passage and rumen fermentation pattern in goats and sheep offered good quality diets

The in vivo digestibility, the rates of fermentation and passage and the rumen fermentation pattern were compared in ̃ Granadina goats and Segurena wethers fed alfalfa hay (AH), alfalfa hay/sugar beet pulp, 4:1 (AH/SB) and alfalfa hay/sugar beet pulp /oat grain, 3:1:1 (AH/SB/OG) at approximately maintenance level. The animals were at stall and no selectivity was practised. The nylon bag techniqu...

Rate of passage of digesta in sheep

I. The rates of passage of markers of fluid and particulate digesta through the sheep alimentary tract have been described mathematically in single-injection experiments by analysing the concentration curves of marker excretion in faecal dry matter and then predicting these concentrations by means of an equation containing two exponential terms. Thrce components related to this equation are a t...
